Electricity -
The supply voltage in major residential areas and new developments is 115/230 volts 50Hz. Solar power is used throughout the island primarily for hot water systems.
Telephone - Monthly line rental is approximately $60.00 Bds. Long distance calls are additional. The fixed line telecommunication services in Barbados are provided solely by Cable and Wireless and they are the current mobile service providers.
Cable Television - Local cable depending on the package ranges between $80-180 Bds a month.
Internet - The three Internet service providers are Caribsurf (a division of cable & Wireless), Sunbeach Communications and Telebarbados . The cost is approximately between $60 - $90 Bds monthly.
Insurance - This cost can vary depending on whether the property is on the beach or is inland. Building and Contents insurance is always recommended.
Common area expenses - These are common fees charged by condominiums and townhouses and sometimes gated communities. THis monthly payment is for the maintenance of common areas including gardening, pool(s), pest control, repair and contingency.
Water - A monthly payment is based on a metered system.
Security - Depending on the individuals needs security may come in the form of a security guard or installation of an alarm system.
