Barbados boasts the most diverse and visionary range of real estate in the Caribbean region. The choice is impressive, from traditional property designs to innovative lifestyle developments embracing beachfront, marina, golf resort, polo fields, retirement, tennis and spa.
A number of exclusive West Coast villa communities have established themselves over the last decade or two. The forerunner to this was, of course, Sandy Lane with its array of stunning homes dotted between the fairways of the world famous golf course. Royal Westmoreland was subsequently developed as the West Coast’s second prestigious golf resort, a 500 acre estate with one of the world’s finest championship courses at its heart.
Opposite Royal Westmoreland sits Sugar Hill, a stunning David Lloyd Resort Community with 100 elegant homes overlooking the Caribbean coast. Boasting excellent tennis facilities, the resort presents another tempting dimension for the UK buyer.
A few miles to the north is arguably the most exciting property development of recent years. Port St. Charles is an exclusive residential marina development providing fabulous homes on a lagoon and beachfront. The major selling point here is, of course, having somewhere to moor the yacht, a facility not found elsewhere on the island outside Bridgetown.
The resort communities and estates are, however, far from the complete picture of the Barbados property scene. Any visitor over the last two or three years will have noticed a good number of smaller condominium developments springing into life. This has been particularly true in areas such as Prospect, to the south of Sandy Lane, as well as parts of the south coast.
The boom in high quality new-build apartments has gathered pace as the 2007 Cricket World Cup approaches, and if you are in the market for a 2 or 3 bed apartment you really are spoilt for choice.
These recent developments have enhanced what was already an enviable diversity of real estate on the island. Whether you’re tempted by a penthouse or a plantation house, brand new or steeped in history, look thoroughly around the market – your dream home is out there somewhere….
